Lent

Lent is the forty-day period before Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday which was during our midterm. This year Lent begins on the 17th of February and ends on the 3rd of April , which is the day before Easter. Lent is a time for thinking about Jesus and how he gave his life for us. Lots of people give things up for Lent to remember how Jesus suffered in the desert and on the cross. It is also a good time to give to others who aren't as lucky as we are, using the Trocaire boxes, spend time with your family and pray. During Lent most people promise to do things to make things better for other people. This could be helping around the house, keeping your bedroom tidy, helping in the kitchen. Some people promise to be nicer to their brothers and sisters and to give their mam and dad a hand either by being good or by helping out at home. Others give up their favourite things, chocolate, sweets, playstation and the wii. We should also remember Jesus as part of our daily prayers during Lent. It is a hard time for us, especially if we have given up our favourite things but we remember it was a hard time for Jesus too. Say a special prayer for Jesus each night during Lent.
